On May 06, 2024, the 4th Tagaur Forum will be held - "Economics, Ecology, Energy, Education" - the regional platform of the VI Moscow Academic Economic Forum (MAEF-2024), Russia, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Prigorodny District, Koban village. The purpose of the Conference: to expand interregional and international scientific cooperation on the development of modern methods and innovative technologies for the sustainable development of mountainous areas. September 22-28, 2024 will be the IX All-Russian Conference with international participation "Mountain ecosystems and their components" dedicated to the 300^th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the 30^th anniversary of the Institute of Ecology of Mountain Territories named after A.K. Tembotov RAS and Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov, Russia, Kabardino-Balkar Republic, Nalchik. The conference will be held in the following scientific areas: - biological diversity in mountainous conditions; - ecology and evolution of organisms and communities in mountainous areas; - ecological foundations for the rational development and protection of natural resources of mountains. The working language of the conference is Russian. The conference format is face-to-face and remote via video conferencing. The program of the Conference provides for reports: plenary (up to 20 minutes), sectional (10 minutes). The materials will be placed in the electronic collection of theses with the assignment of ISBN (in the RSCI) and selectively in the special issue of the Izvestia RAS magazine. October 01-03, 2024 in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan) and October 07-09, 2024 in Grozny (Chechen Republic, Russia) will host the InterKarto International Conference. InterGIS 30 "Geo-information support for the sustainable development of regions in a crisis". Within the framework of the conference, it is planned to hold a school-seminar of young scientists on the topics "Geo-information and cartographic support of social and geographical research," as well as conduct scientific excursions on October 03 and 09, 2024.

19.11.2024-21.11.2024 the VI Eurasian Conference "Methodology and Practice of Minimizing Natural and Man-made Risks of Climate Change" (RISK-2024) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The main goal of the conference is to disseminate knowledge and "know-how" technologies in the field of innovative approaches to minimizing technological and climate risks (probabilities and consequences). Participation form: full-time. Working languages of the Conference: English and Russian. The submitted articles, after review, will be published in the journal "Reliability: Theory and Applications", indexed in the SCOPUS system. Articles up to 6–8 pages are accepted only in English. On May 24-26, 2024, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Mountains and Mountain Text" in the World Historical and Cultural Process" will be held in Tbilisi (Georgia), organized by the Dialogorum Cultural and Educational Foundation (Hungary) and the non-profit organization "EU WAY"(Georgia). It is supposed to pay special attention to the phenomenon of the mountain Caucasus, which is a unique geocultural and historical area that united many peoples and formed special multi-ethnic socio-cultural systems. The working languages of the conference are Russian, Georgian, English. Acceptance of applications and theses (up to 0.5 pages) – until March 01, 2024. On April 23-27, 2024, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "UNESCO Global Geoparks: From Idea to Implementation" will be held at the UNESCO Global Geopark "Yangan-Tau," Russia, Republic of Bashkortostan, Salavat District, Yangantau village. The Conference Programme will include plenary reports (20 min) and oral communications (15 min). Within the framework of the Conference, it is planned to discuss the creation and development of geoparks, as well as the promotion of geoparks to strengthen the local one. During the Conference, field tours of the Yangan-Tau geopark are planned. Acceptance of applications for participation in the Conference and the titles of the reports - February 01 - March 20, 2024. "Mountain Protected Areas UPDATE"

The 120th issue of "Mountain UPDATE" has been published online. The publication is a true collection of mountain stories, ranging from world heritage sites to tiny high-altitude mice in the Andes (Phyllotis vaccarum).

The Mountain UPDATE ends with an assessment of the two-week 28th UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai. The climate crisis has a global impact in real time, and mountain biodiversity and mountain peoples (and in the highlands and downstream) will be affected to varying degrees by its consequences.

Director General ICIMOD Pema Gyamtsho spoke confidently about the need for an urgent solution to this issue.

But despite whatever the situation, International Mountain Day on December 11 remains a worthy holiday of the beauty of the mountains and serves as a reason for reflection!
